Happy Couple December 29, 2007

Well, the big day finally arrived and Lance and Stacy were married for time and all eternity in the San Diego temple on December 28th 2007. It was a clear, warm beautiful day (big surprise in San Diego right?). Stacy and Lance flew into town on Friday the 21st and Cheryl, Scott and Allie drove down on Wednesday the 26th after spending Christmas with Scotts family in St. George. During the week we took care of all the details: we picked up the tuxedos and the bridesmaid dresses, Stacy got her shoes and whatever else she needed, flowers were delivered to the house and we framed a couple of Stacy's bridal pictures for display at the reception. Lances family got into town on Thursday the 27th and we met his mom for the first time. His whole family is really great and we love all of them. Thursday night we all went to the Temple and Stacy received her endowment. That was an awesome experience to be in the temple with all my girls (Bonnie, Cheryl and Stacy). Our Bishop and our previous Bishop were both out of town for Christmas and let us use their homes for our guests. It could not have worked out any better. The Temple was very busy on the 28th with 21 weddings that day. When stacy made the arrangements her choices were 8:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. She chose 8:00 a.m. Needless to say it was an early start to the day to be ready. Stacy's friend Brooke Heinen did Stacy's hair here at the house at 5:00a.m. Erika Olayan and Geri Riggins did the other bridesmaids hair at Erika's moms house. We got to the Temple at 7:00 a.m. and filled out the paperwork and waited for everyone to show up. Craig Bramwell, our stake patriarch who we have known for years was their sealer. It was wonderful to have everyone together in the Temple. Afterwards pictures were taken for about 16 hours (OK maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit). We then met for lunch at B.J.s restaurant where they have the most awesome pizza. That night we went to the reception at Admiral Kidd's Club, a beautiful Naval facility overlooking downtown San Diego. The room was on the 2nd floor and was still decorated for Christmas with all the beautiful lights. Stacy's cousin Marsha provided all the floral arrangements and center pieces and were just beautiful. It was just a fabulous evening with great food, music, dancing and just a lot of fun. Bonnie booked a room at the Sheraton Hotel just down the street for Stacy and Lance that evening which was very convenient. They gave Bonnie a free upgrade to the 10th floor but when they checked in they gave them an upgrade to the 12th (top) floor with two large rooms and a gigantic balcony overlooking all the bay. The next day we took Stacy and Lance to the cruise ship terminal where they boarded the Carnival Elation and went on a 5 day cruise to Cabo San Lucas.

Ok, so I'm a week late with the blog entry. Anyway, all the kids were down for thanksgiving this year. Cheryl, Scott and Allie drove down from Provo and arrived here at 8:00p.m. Monday night. We picked Stacy and Lance up at the airport on Tuesday night. They were on separate flights but they arrived only 20 minutes apart. The highlights on Wednesday included Lance and Stacy getting their marriage license, a trip to Marsha's flowershop to choose flowers for the wedding and selecting the reception menu at Admiral Kidd. Thursday morning we went to Steele Canyon Highschool and took family pictures. The football field was an amazing state-of-the art synthetic grass and looked amazing. It was awesome just to run around on it barefoot. After we took pictures the girls went home and the boys had permission to stay and play. We tried kicking some field goals. I sucked pretty bad. Lance did well and Scott put a couple 40 yard plus kicks through the uprights. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with our family and Spencer's family. Friday Scott and Lance played golf with a nurse that works for Bonnies company, Bonnie and the girls went shopping for food Stacy's bridal shower and I got to stay home to clean the house and decorate. Saturday was Stacy's bridal shower at our house. There was a good turn out with about 35 people. The boys watched the BYU football game upstairs.
Sunday morning Cheryl, Scott, Allie and Lance left at 6:00 a.m. to drive home and we took Stacy to the airport in the afternoon. It was a great Thanksgiving.

San Diego Wild Fires 2007

Mt. San Miguel 3:30 a.m.

Mt. San Miguel 6:30 a.m.

This week we had 8 separate wildfires in San Diego County from Fallbrook to the Mexican border. There were also fires in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Over a Quarter million people were evacuated from their homes including some here in Spring Valley. Jared was off from school yesterday, and all schools are closed today. Bonnie is working from home today as she did yesterday. My work shut down at 10:30 p.m. yesterday and is closed today. We didn't feel threatened at out house, but this morning the flames swept across San Miguel Mountain. We noticed the flames about 1:00 a.m. this morning, and around 3:30 a.m. the mountain was pretty much engulfed in flame. Its 8:47 a.m. as I'm typing this and the mountain is completely obscured by smoke. On the news the fire department was confident that they could keep the fire from jumping across Jamacha Blvd. so we won't have to evacuate.

Bonnie, Hannah, Carys and Ella.

Well, its October 16, which means that Bonnie and I have been married for 25 years...WOW! We celebrated last week with a trip to Jamaica. Bonnie, Jared and I went with Darin, Tara and their girls. We drove to LAX Saturday the 6th with everyone piled into the truck. We parked in a garage (that turned out to be to low for the truck) and rode a shuttle to the airport. We took a red-eye flight and arrived in Montego Bay early Sunday morning. From there we took a shuttle to Beaches Sandy Bay just outside of Negril. The resort was beautiful and the rooms were nice. Monday we were all taking a walk down the beach when a man pulled up in a small fishing boat and asked me and Darin if we wanted to go fishing. When we declined his invitation he asked me if I wanted some weed. I declined this as well. Tuesday we took a glass-bottom boat out to the reef and had a great time snorkeling. On the way out we passed a very large catamaran called the Hedonism II. It was packed with people so I thought it was odd that one old man was changing on the deck. It then became apparent that everyone on the boat was clothing challenged. It rained Wednesday and Thursday so Darin and I played a lot of table tennis. A couple of days we took a shuttle to Beaches Negril which is only 5 minutes away. They have a couple of huge pools and a small water park. They also had a restaurant called Kimonos that was similar to Benihana's. The food was great and we didn't have to decide what to order because they cook everything on the menu so you can try everything...Awesome. Because the resort is all-inclusive we could get drinks (non-alcoholic of course) all day. We each had our favorites and Carys liked the strawberry daiquiri. She had 3 or 4 a day all week and literally spilled every single one. Each resort had a sand volleyball court which me and Daring took advantage of and enjoyed some great games.

Jared and Isaac.

Jared participated in his first cross country invitational at West Hills High School on Friday, 8/31/07. This was a regional event for all of San Diego County. We were having a heat wave that day and the temperature was in the triple digits. Jared still ran well and placed in the top half of the field.

Allie Paige

Allie Paige: Worlds cutest Grandbaby.

Worlds cutest grandbaby in a flowered
headband and polo shirt.

Well, Cheryl and Allie left us yesterday. They flew home in the afternoon but we got to spend the whole week with them. Allie has changed quite a bit since the last time we saw her. She is much more alert and aware of her surroundings. She smiles a lot now and makes cute little cooing sounds, at least she does when she is fed, changed, rested and in a good mood. Cheryl ,on the other hand, hasn't changed a bit. She is just as pretty as ever. They won't be back until the end of October. Allie will probably be driving by then.

A GOOD DAY.

This morning Bonnie, Stacy and I drove to the Temple to take a few photos of Stacy in her wedding dress. Unfortunately, it was sunny first thing in the morning and I was having a hard time trying to obtain a proper exposure without "blowing out" the white wedding dress. Stacy was a little impatient so we only took a few. We will try again when she comes down for Thanksgiving. Afterwards we went to lunch at Samba's Brazilian Grill. The food was alright, but the service was lacking a bit. We went because Bonnie had a half off coupon. We probably won't go back.
